Too often is table top space wasted through housing household items or stacking books or magazines on top of one another, making the space messy and disorganised. Cradle combats this by flipping the surface area vertically, holding multiple storage baskets for a more tidy organisational system.

This can better showcase the books the user is currently reading and/or create space for miscellaneous items below the surface level of the table- all whilst still providing space along the sides to rest enough cups or mugs for an entire family.
Brief
Create a coffee table that combats wasted table top surface area space by incorporating unique storage solutions into the design.
Concept
The majority of table top space on coffee tables are wasted on other household items besides its core purpose- to house drinks. Flipping the storage space vertically creates a more organised, tidier area, with a new emphasis on display and ease of access.

Initial sketches for Cradle- Focus on a vertical storage system for books, newspapers or magazines

Development
Quick sketching and testing in Fusion 360 helped to figure out the functionality of the basket system. Settling on rests evenly distributed along a railing that allow for the baskets to be hooked on top of.
Refinement
Finalising the concept in Fusion 360 allowed me to set out my final measurements, nail down on the basket system and make design changes that reduce excess material as I planned to create a full scale, working prototype.
